Handicrafts have always been my passion. As a child, I loved sewing, sometimes secretly at night under the blanket, creating clothes for myself and my family. I have tried everything: decoupage, scrapbooking, window color, patchwork, and more.
In early 2009, I began making bears after my girlfriend enthusiastically shared her experience with her first handcrafted bear. Within a week, I created my first teddy bear using a pattern by Jemma Kadzh. Although he resembled a Yeti more than a teddy, I knew I had discovered a passion I had been searching for all along.
Soon after, I attended courses by the renowned bear artist Barbara Nachtigall, followed by additional courses from Jutta Michels and Jemma Kadzh.
Ideas for my bears often come from my surroundings, interesting people, or illustrations in children’s books. I am fascinated that from just a piece of cloth and cotton wool, a “living character” can be created. I aim to evoke smiles and goodness in people with my creations. While I understand this is an idealized goal, isn’t that the essence of any creativity?
